bravo exhaust smoke and ticking?

i currently have a v reg fiat bravo 1.9 JTD and has recently started to white smoke really bad from the exhaust and there is a ticking noise coming from the exhaust anyone know what this is please,, thanks

ticking noise is prob the heat plate vibrating off the exhaust, the white smoke means there is a good chance its the head gasket on its way out. does the white smoke come out when you rev the engine? e-mail me johnagnew5982 hotmail
