My Mountfield model PDGPLM4235A has stopped self propelling, The cables are fine and the clutch lever under the machine operates when I close the bar. However it does not drive the lawnmower, any idea's

Either: the belt driving the back axle is loose or missing, or if that is ok and the cable is pulling a lever that you can see on the axle gearbox itself, there may be a gearbox problem here; or, the drive gears in the rear wheels have failed - but here you should see the axle rods turning.
