Oil in the carberator and engine has white smoke coming from it?

What is wrong with my 10.5 Briggs and stratton motor when I have oil in the carberator and having white smoke coming from the muffler.

Usually the oil level is too high when this happens - oil is forced through the breather pipe and into the air filter box.
