How can I fix my Vauxhall Zafira 1.6 - 2004 ?

I have had my Zafira for 3.5 years and over the last few months I have had terrible bother with it jerking along the road like a kangaroo. I took it to my local garage and they suggested I put Redex Fuel solution in the petrol and that I might just have dirt in the petrol tank. About 4 bottles later and at one point the dash emission lights coming on, it still isn't running right. The garage said about putting on the diagnostic machine but they thought I should go with the Redex.

On reading other forums, people might be suggesting it's the EGR valve - exhaust gas!

Any suggestions!

Using Redex in this case is absolute nonsense. If it was necessary then all Zafira's would have this problem. If the engine management light is lit, then a fault code will be stored in the cars computer, which can be read by any garage with suitable diagnostic equipment - and it doesn't have to be a main dealer. Can I suggest that you try another garage? The fault could indeed be the EGR system, but there are other factors that give similar symptoms.
