wheel removal?

I have a 1994 mtd Ranchking 12/42 riding mower.I need to replace the tire because of dryrotting.I can't get the wheel free of the axle.Does the wheel thread on/off or press on/off?

If you have removed the C clip anf the wheel will not come off easily you will have to saturate the axel at the back side of the wheel and also spray some penetrating oil at the front of the wheel at the axel and let it set for about an hour then try to pull the wheel off again. if it still doesn't come off then you will need to use a large punch to drive the wheel off the axel. place the punch at the rear of the wheel on the small part of the wheel and strike it hard a few times and it should come off the axel. I hope this will help you:

I don't know this machine personally, but usually the wheels are held on by a circlip which you remove, and the wheel just pulls from the axle. However they frequently rust on, so apply a good releasing spray such as WD40, let it soak in, and try to work the wheel free. You'll see a square woodruff key in a slot which locates the wheel onto the axle when it does come free. Don't lose this key!
