How can I fix my Mac Allister JE 150/92A ride on mower ?

Once the engine is running, I engage the leaver to drive the cutters on my Macallister ride on mower but then the engine cuts out or begins to cut out as the lever is moved forward?

you need to keep your foot on the brake as you engage the lever!!!!
