How can I fix my Renault Clio ?

I have a Renault Clio 1.2 16V (Year 53) that will not start. Both key fobs work in the normal ways with regard alarm, door locks etc, but when it comes to starting the car the engine will not turnover and the immobiliser light on the dashboard remains on constantly.
The RAC have run their standard checks on it but their advise is that it looks like an immobiliser issue. Unfortunately without running a full Renault diagnostic analyser programme (Renault Clip, I believe) they can not say for sure.
After recent poor service from the local Renault garage the last thing I want to do is take it there but no other local garage has the relevant Renault diagnostic programme.
Anyone's advise as to whether I should bite the bullet and let Renault rip me off or whether there is any other alternative would be much appreciated

try holding the button down on the dash that locks/unlocks the doors until it beeps. I had a similar problem on my 2002 Clio Sports and that seemed to fix it.
