renault scenic dashboard?

My cluster unit has gone blank and needs to be repaired. I found a company online which is highly reccomended by other scenic owners. how easy is it to remove and replace?

Absolute cowboys and a disgrace to the UK automotive industry. Absolutely NO SERVICE and destroyed my Merc 500 CLK cluster. Stay well clear of Nathan who purports to be of some authority but NEVER returns calls or emails.

For fault diagnosis they wanted £75 then the cost of the part.
Found instructions to remove the scenic dash here http://alturl.com/4k7ep looks as though it only takes 10min's

As has been said previously - DON'T repair the dash unit yourself or go to a third party company to have it repaired - Renault have acknowledged this fault as a manufacturing fault and will replace the unit for £100. There's no need to contact Renault UK - just contact your nearest renault service centre (the official ones) and they will book it in for a fault diagnosis and repair.

My scenic dash flickered a few times and reset the clock and then died. It's on an 05 plate and out of warranty. Renault bear the majority of the cost - and I worked out fairly quickly that to buy the unit alone would cost more than £100, so I've left it with them.

I also got a courtesy car thrown in for a minimal insurance cost too - worth being nice to the service reception staff and asking what they can do if the part is non stock and will take a couple of days to arrive ;-))

Thanks to all of u for ur input on the scenic dashboard but i was the 1 percent that did not work. So on taking my car to the renault garage to get it fixed they told me it would only cost me 100 pounds as renault will pay the rest due to investigation of the bbc watchdog program.

You will not believe.
I had the same problem and I wanted to unmount the dash. After removing the plastic case I started to move the connectors (the gray one). I saw that the dash boar started to flash more intensive.
After that the problem didn't appear - so far, so good.
So, it really works!

Yeah you just slide in something thin like a Knife, and use upward pressure. Once you unscrew the 2 torx screws the unit tilts forward and just lifts out. Hope this helps :o)

May I thank Lewis Harvey (May 2009) for his simply solution on how to fix the Renault Scenic dashboard display cluster. It worked ! It was so easy to fix, I just hope it will last more than a couple of weeks than as what happened to him. If I need to remove it to have this cluster repaired, how does one remove the bottom part of the plastic casing and does it simply come out once you remove the two Torx 20 screws ??

Must point out this only worked for a couple of weeks. I then sent it to Cluster repairs uk. They let me down miserably.
Had mine destroyed by cluster repairs uk after they had it for 2weeks! Sent it out as repaired, failed within 5 mins of use. Sent it back to them , further 10 days, said they could not gaurantee the repair and gave me a full refund. However I got it back now only the left side of the unit works!!! TBH their customer service was diabolical. I complained that they had broken the unit, was told 6 weeks ago they would provide me with a working replacement at trade price £189 + VAT
Heard nothing from them since even after numerous calls. STAY WELL CLEAR OF THESE COWBOYS!!!!!

What you said worked a treat.... however my milage has increased by 30,000 miles!!!! how the blo*dy hell does this happen and why if loads of us are having this problem as the internet would imply are renault not sorting this out!!!!! thanks again for the advise though on working out how to get the dash off!

To remove the unit press upwards on the spongey overhang of the unit. You can then actually get your fingers inside to pull down on the upper half of the dash plastic casing. Give this a firm pull and it will clip off. When you see behind this there are 2 connectors. With the ignition on put a slight upwards pressure on the grey left connector, surprisingly 99 times out of 100 the display will come back. I found that wedging a peice of solid plastic between the bottom of the grey connector and the top of the see through lcd cover, replicates the upward pressure and the unit should work fine from then on. Please give this a go and save yourself a small fortune. It worked fine for me and quite a few others. At the end of the day you have nothing to lose! Except £700 to local Renault dealer!!!! lol
