Door was broken by vandals when building vacant. Landlord has asked me to inquire can it be mended and around how much.

Cheeky landlord - he should mend it quickly or get a replacement or reduce your rent. If you make enquiries on his behalf you should charge him a reasonable fee for professional services.

My guess is that a replacement door will be difficult to find costly to buy and costly to fit.
