Vauxhall Vivaro electrical fault?

I have fitted a second hand engine to my Vauuxhall vivaro 1.9 turbo diesel which has 44000 miles on it as my engine blew up after 70000 miles. However ever since this I am having problem after problem. I have taken it to the garage and have been told it's an electrical fault and no one can tell me what!! When I go over 50 mph the engine management light flashes on and I lose all power! Was told it may be the injectors but they are not coded so this is not it.It keeps on pumping black smoke aswell! Please can someone help me before I go mad! I don't want to have to take it to a garage where they will take days/weeks finding the fault and I get a hefty bill at the end! Thank you

My 2.5 2007 vivaro suddenly wouldn't start on Friday central locking works lights work but engine doesn't crank. Checked battery 14v all fuses checked any ideas much appreciated. Thanks

This might be the plastic air pipe popped off that connect to your terbo. its under the air box so will have to remove this then it is to the back right of the engine.

hi guys, with the vivaro fault of van power goes until you restart check your throttle pedal this is electrical and can cause loads of different symtoms

When I Break my indicator light comes on I think I have a short but where to start looking

Larry, November 2014
this is a wiring problem the wires are prone to chaffing had the same problem i traced the wires from the turbo boost solenoid back to the ecu and found a bad wire replaced wire from ecu to the solenoid worked fine french wiring shit not up to the job

so many dorks about who know nothing but think they do ?

Hi I have a 52 plate vivaro lights won't go off what do I do

Scott, February 2013
for anyone out there with similar problem? ive a 56 plate vivaro, 90,000 miles never had any probs, untill recently, as soon as i put my foot down and the turbo was meant to come in around 2800 revs the van looses all power and dash lights come on, normal thing turn engine off, start again, same probs, at 2800 revs, i changed vacume pump, vacume sensor, egr valve and mass air flow sensor, still no joy, untill just £18 later turbo vacume pipe changed, van now goes like stink again, so check this pipe first, and save yourself some dough...................

There is a light on the dash - the glow plug light with the zig zag lines which the service manual says should be water in the fuel or an electric fault. On starting the van up it won't take revs for about 30 seconds, and it's quite smokey. Once you have started driving it, the smoking continues until the engine has warmed up. Once it has warmed up, it performs very well and accellerates nicely. When my mechanic changed the timing belt, he said the old one was a little slack, and it certainly has improved things a bit. I'm not a Renault expert, but based on the service history which says the EGR and MAF have been replaced, the other likely faults could be the injectors or the Diesel pump.

my vivaros glow plug light and light on top of that comes on if im driving more than70mphh or putting the van under pressure, ive spent loads so far changed the mass air flow meter, the turbo solenoid and numerous diagnostic machines and computers, can any1 shed any light on this, thanks.

Hi i have a vivaro 06 1.9 I have an engine man light that is doing my head in. The problem I have is when I go over 60 the man light comes on. I got a local garage to plug there TEC 2 in and they told me it was a MAS flow air sensor code and a low boost pressure so I brought a genuine vauxhall MAS flow and a boost pressure switch cleared codes and the light still comes on. I then swapped the EGR value with a vivaro with no light coming on but still light comes on it is better but still comes on over 70 and when engine is under pressure up hills. The garage i use have drawn a blank said it could be turbo but as the van runs ok and turbo is working around town they don’t think this is the problem has anyone got any info that could help me the codes are po100 (B) mass air flow high input.
P1125 (1) boost pressure solenoid valve excessive flow detected
Help please

where is the brake light switch on a 54 plate vivaro,

i had the same prob it was egr valve coked up and was stuck closed so wouldent put enouth air back in angin as u need it when u go faster

check wires to injectors .common fault they trap under air box and rub through on rocker cover .had same probs with my 2006 vivaro difficult to start and loss off power

deano pacino, November 2010
sounds like boost control solenoid problem

around the town you wont be holding boost pressure for long enough to get engine management worried ,

on a fast road getting up to speed and cruising anywhere over 3000 rpm the turbos pressure will climb and trigger the manifold absolute pressure sensor because the boost solenoid problem wont be opening the wastegate to stop overboost,

the vauxhall will go into limp mode with a few dash lights coming on and not letting engine rev above 3000rpm, until you reset the fault by turning off engine and starting again.

check boost control solenoid / hosing and wastegate diaphragm or siezed linkage on top of the turbo.

this could be the reason your last engine blew by running high boost pressure / lean running

also when you changed the engine did you get all the hoses correct?

i;'m currently suffering with my vauxhall vivaro, the spiraly light directly below the petrol light flash's from day to day and keeps cuting out and engine stops, can some one help me to know whats happening and what i could do,thanks

why does my vauxhall vivaro give out black smoke?

I don't know the reason.

Alexe, April 2010
It is your power boost sensor/switch, repairs will cost £300.00 at an approved vauxhall garage..

Andy, April 2010
well i had an astra van which i know is smaller, but the same problem.it was the egr valve blocked with carbon, regards

Hi,
I have got exactly the same problem with my vauxhall vivaro van. It is fine driving around the city but as soon as i try to drive it on an A road or the motorway the energy management light comes on and i find that i cannot go faster than 25-30 miles per hour, i pull over for a minute and then restart the engine then it seems to be ok. I have had new plugs fitted a new map sensor, and had a couple of other bits changed but to no avail. If anyone has any suggestions i would be most grateful.

Hi Gareth i had the same problem with my vivaro the energy management light would come on and i would lose power especially on hills. The fault was found to be a faulty boost pressure sensor. Hope this might help. Gary

Gary, May 2009
I will try that.

Thanks

Gareth

Gareth, May 2009
Hi Gareth, it sounds like the engine ecu is going into protective limp home mode, you will need to get the diagnostic codes read, tyre & exhaust place charge around £25~30 the reason for the warning light will be stored in the ecu's memory if that does'nt prove conclusive they might be able to drive with you with the diagnostic kit plugged in and read the engine parameters in real time and see what is happening at 50mph nige110162 at hotmail.co.uk

nigel, May 2009
Hi,

I have had a new fuel filter fitted. Sorry I said this wrong... The van does not cut out on me but after about 50 mph the engine light comes on and then I start to lose power so I have to stop the van and wait 5 - 10 seconds before starting it again.
Thanks
Gareth

I know nothing of motor vehicles (next to nothing) but I am unable to imagine an electrical fault that only happens at 50mph or above and then goes away as the speed reduces.

Your van has done 114,000 miles - does it have a Diesel Particulate Filter? Has it been checked, cleaned, replaced?

I can imagine an electronic engine management unit being able to work out the vehicle's speed, decide it doesn't like it for some reason and limit the speed.

A significant piece of evidence is that when the fault happens the engine management light flashes!!

I think the guy who said it's an electrical fault was just guessing - much like I am now - but he was probably being paid for his advice - my opinion is totally free...

Good luck...
