Siemens HB28054 oven - built-in electric fan oven, 8+ years old, still runs perfectly well, except that the LED display (shows clock and timers) is now so weak that is almost impossible to read in daytime, even when trying to shield the display from ambient light.

Is this a display fault, or have we accidentally selected a dimmed function?

I had this problem on a GE oven and fixed it last night in less than 1 hour - I replaced 3 capacitors on the circuit board (see http://fixitnow.com/wp/2009/01/28/cheap-fix-for-a-dim-display-on-an-oven-control-panel/) you will need to have some intermediate fix-it skills but all in all was very easy and cost me under $5. Now my display is brighter than ever.
