BAD advice from WS.
If it was that easy the car thieves would have a field day, don't believe me then try it, also the code would be lost every time your car had work done on it that involved removing the battery.
The code is stored within the processor memory in the keypad, this memory is non-volatile which means that the code is not lost when power or plug is removed from the keypad.
There are reliable specialists out there such as www.code-busters.co.uk who offer free advice & an economic service to retrieve lost codes on these immobiliser systems with no damage to the parts involved.
Security systems such as this are not going to be by-passed by urban myths and are an essential part of your vehicle, not to be tinkered with unless you like paying out large sums of money to have it repaired after you balls it up.
From what I can gather the main dealers will charge you more than £500 to get these going once you lose or forget the code.

assuming the keypad is the one where you have to push a set of numbers, remove the panel and under it you should see a plug, disconnect for 30 secs, then plug back in, the code will be 0000, and 9999 for service mode, I can't remember how to change the code to another number mind but this should getr you going
