ive also changed alternator electric power steering pump now the abs light has come on and stays on and the vehicle does not start all the time

Needs power steering fluid ! Ceck it for leaks also.

why has steering wheel light appeared on dash caused loss of power steering?
It could be that Loss of Power Steering has caused the warning light on the dash to come on - it's very unlikely that a light on the dash would cause the power steering to fail.
