No heat (water or air) in Zanussi DE4744 dishwasher?

Our dishwasher appears to go through a normal cycle, but when finished, the plates are cold and wet and fatty deposits aren't washed off. It seems that the water isn't being heated and there's no hot air to dry.

Any ideas what's gone wrong and how to fix it?

I'm beginning to think it's something to do with the controller now as it's behaving differently than before.

Firstly, even on a standard economy wash, it is sloshing water around for nearly two hours before going onto the drying cycle.

Secondly, it used to cancel the programme entirely if you opened the door during the drying cycle, but last night it didn't - it stayed in the drying cycle when i closed the door again, even though it wasn't drying.

Sounds like the same prob I'm having (again) with my Zanussi de6965 - its been through more heating elements than I can count. We pay for a yearly maintenance insurance cover and this is the first home appliance I have ever been thankful I did.
Typically mine gives an AL3 error but if you open the door through the cycle you can feel the water is stone cold

It failed once so badly it kept tripping the house RCD breakers

The previous model we had lasted 10 years and only needed new door seals, I wish i'd kept it.
