how can i fix the speedo on my 1999 ford focus?

The speedo on my 1999 Ford Focus 1.8 Zetec works intermittently. How can I fix it please? I also notice a drop in power when the speedo dose'nt work.

Your problem sounds like it could be related to the vehicle speed sensor. This sensor attached to the gearbox informs the speedometer and ECU of the vehicle's speed.
If this were to fail, you would expect the speedometer to read zero and perhaps the ECU to be confused, causing the problem.
To repair costs about £50 this problem wont effect your car, but it has been known to cut out the engine at low speeds.
Its more of an annoyance than anything. Best to get it fixed though. ds

take out the dashboard and see if the cable is loose if so you should get a new cable or take the car to a specillast your drop in power could be because of the cable which comes from your speedo could affect the accelator pedal cable.
