My HP470 with B & S engine won't start?

Faithful since purchase in 2004 my HP470, Model 24 3781 00 Type ES464, Yr 2004 S/N 4997116 now refuses to start. Push Primer bulb 3 times as indicated for start up but I cannot hear any movement of petrol. Is this an easy fix (no mechanic here) if so what part do I need and where can I buy it. Any assistance of a non techinical nature greatfully received.

Many thanks John,

I have no practical skills whatsoever so will probably either pressgang my father in law to helping or look to have a B & S approved supplier to have a look at it.
Thanks for all your feedback which was very much appreciated.

Hi Paul, access is rarely straight forward with any Briggs engine but they are ok once you get used to them, and I would start by removing the air cleaner top, and probably followed by the recoil starter housing - this should give access to the screws that secure the carburettor to the fuel tank. You may have to remove the fuel tank also to allow the carb to be removed. You've also got to consider the spring and wire rod linkage that connects from the governor to the carb throttle. It really depends on how you feel confidence wise!

John, Many thanks for your feedback. Is access to the Carb fairly straight forward, if so can you clarify.

If you can't hear petrol squishing around, or see the primer bulb filling, then its best to replace the diaphragm that sits between the carb. and the fuel tank. However, you may get things going well enough by dropping a bit of neat petrol down through the carb after removing the air cleaner.
