i was given the steam iron generator but was told it leaks from under the main base ,would it need a new filter

I have a Morphy Richards steam generator iron and the protective fibre cover over the water lead from the reservoir to the iron has become badly damaged! is there a way of replacing it or repairing it in some way as the iron works fine?
