my fiesta 1995 mk3 not ticking over?

i have got a fiesta mk3 and when i'm at a stand still it will die on me but it will start up strainght away again i think it not taking allot of air through the carbrette, does any one know whats wrong with it.

if that was the case i wouldnt have thought it would run propperly at all?? it is more likely to cut out at higher revs when the engine demands even more air i would have thought?
