battery very hot?

Hi , i have a 52 plate chrysler PT cruiser 2.2crd , Ive just replaced the battery (under front passenger seat) but the battery keeps draining ,also when i jump it and try and recharge , the battery gets very hot, too hot to touch , this isnt normal is it? many thanks.

I would get the output from the alternator checked as it sounds like it's putting out too higher voltage normally it should give around 14v with all lights, heaters,HRW and any other heavy electrical loads

Thanks Aaron , the battery is from a Chrysler dealer here in the UK .

I called their parts department and they said it was normal for a battery to get warm....


...but this is getting to hot , there was also a fizzing noise coming from it , its disconnected now . anyone help?

No it is not normal. It is very dangerous in fact. You must make sure that the battery that you replaced the original with is a Sealed battery. Check with you local Sears Automotive, or with the dealership to get the right battery for your cruiser.
