the door is designed not to open when the machine is running, therefore there is a mechanism on the motor to prevent the door opening while the motor turns. What happens is there is a plastic 'cam' that presses against the pully wheel and when the machine stops the cam engages against the wheel. When you pull on the door lever there is a cable, a bit like a bike brake cable, that pulls on the mechanism and this needs the cam in place to open the door, sometime, ether through wear or displacement, the cam slips into the 'motor running ' position and the door wont open. If you are unfortunate enough to still have your clothes in the machine you will have to take the top off the machine (two screws at the back/top edge) and then make sure the plastic cam is in place while pulling on the door handle and it should open. You may need a new plastic mechanism or not???
