My fridge keeps freezing at the top back area. How can i stop this? is it anything to do with the red buttton? what is this for?

hi i'm just wondering if anybody has noticed a bad (chemical ) smell from their electrolux er78311 fridge freezers. the smell is from the inside of the fridge compartment and i'm just wondering if it is a refridgerant leak. thanks brendan

We have had our thermostat changed but still the same. The repair man said that the freezing is normal.

Maureen, both my brother-in-law and myself ahve the same issue - both fridges 9 years old. The red switch is the low ambient switch should only be on if room temperature is below 16deg. In our case the issue is caused by the thermostat refusing to turn the compressor off automatically. I am looking for a new thermostat. First thing to try is to turn down the fridge tstat to 0, this will kill compessor then turn back on to 3 and see does it come back on. If it does not then it's likely a thermstat fault
