electric lawn mower overheats & cuts out?

Hi, I recently dusted off my flymo electric lawn mower and attempted to cut my overgrown front garden, after about 10 minutes I spelt a burning smell and the motor sounded like it was struggling so I unplugged it and turned it over. I saw some smoke come out from the motor so I left it a while, then cleared any grass that was clogging up the blade and tried again. it worked but it didn't sound good and sure enough, a couple of minutes later it cut out. Any ideas how I go about fixing it?
many thanks

The motor is breathing its last - needs intensive care but may pass on even with the best attention...

Examine the brushes and armature - pretty certain to be in a poor state of health. New brushes and an armature clean up may restore some life but probably not for long.

My 17 year old Flymo is on its third motor - I buy spare ones from the guy at the council tip who collects mowers. A new motor will cost much more and a new mower even more than that.

BTW - tomorrow is June - most people have been cutting grass since March - get a grip...

This guy might have brushes...

Good luck...
