Not sure on this model but most Simpson dryers have a join fold down the centre of the base & the spring hooks into a hole on that fold. Some of the Simpson dryers have a switch mounted on the base panel next to the fold which is a 2 piece plastic section with a wire attached to each half of the switch. If it has one of these then the spring hooks over the two halves of the switch to pull it together to make a contact for power to go to the heater. When belt breaks or comes off, switch will open & stop the heat.
