"Electrical Fault" Renault Megane 2005 1.5Dci Auto?

Coming home after a trip to wales(200 mile round trip),
the dashboard lights dimmed, but lights working OK,so I brightened them up by turning the little adjusting wheel near the steering column.
Then the "service" message came up on the computer, followed by an "electrical fault" warning.
Everything is working as normal,it seems, can it be a fuse,or will I have to book into Renault?

Sorry to say I had a similar problem a few years ago. Renault replaced the main CPU (at a cost of over £600), and although this particular problem was solved I have seen a whole series of electrical faults ever since - fuses blowing, locking and unlocking itself, windows winding down when I'm not even in the car and now every electric window has ceased to work at all, air conditioning has packed up, the key cards and the car no longer talk to each other, tyre pressure sensors all up the spout (Renault have already charged me £75 to fix this but problem persists)

My advice - give up now and get a new car.

Several problems reported on this site and at other places on the web... Scenic and Megan Dashboard electronics - seems to be a manufacturing quality problem but Renault will not admit else they'll be liable for many warranty claims. My guess is poor soldering - some people report dry joints around the voltage regulator area - others report weird symptoms like the mileage jumping 400 miles on a short journey.

Reanult service garages charge about £450 for a replacement and (cheeky devils) more money for testing! Typical replacement costs around £600.

There's a UK company on the Web offering a 48 hour repair turnround for £195 - you need to be able to remove & replace the dash yourself though.

Doug, sorry to say I had the self same problem, and in the end the dashboard had to be replaced on the Megane. It was a microchip problem in the dashboard, which causes the problem. You will find that gradually you will get all sorts of warning light messages. I would suggest getting it checked out at a Renault garage.
