do you know if the timing belt is a chain or belt on a 2003 Mk4 and if it is chain does it need changed and what intervals

Hi,
It is a chain drive, there is no replacement interval guide, normally you would replace the chain only when it becomes excessivly noisey and the main cause of that will be the rubber pad on the tensioner worn out so causing the chain to become slack
