Heater fan switch on my Vauxhall Vectra only works on no 4 setting. ?

Can anyone suggest what the problem is and how to fix it? Vauxhall Vectra 2.0 DTI 2002. There seems to be a clicking noise from somewhere to the left of the dash when the booster is switched on. It is not working on 1, 2 and 3 settings but comes on on no 4. Have taken out the switch and no apparent problems can be seen.

hello i had the same thing on my 2002 vectra. i swapped my resister over and it still didn't work. so i swapped the little blue relay over what i got from the scrap yard. it's left of the fan. and it worked happy days. cheap fix £5

Anyone know the Vauxhall part number for that small blue relay?

If you change the resistor and it still only works on number 4 then it is the small blue relay behind the glovebox on the left

buy a resistor from scrap yard for a pound put it in and enjoy heat from four settings

I have the exact same problem on my 2003 vectra sri? I didn't look at the switch but did give it a swift jab of the fist and that didn't solve it?? any more ideas?

Usually the resistor block burnt out when this happens. You'll need to replace it with a new one.
