took belt off to replace and cannot seem to get belt back on so it is tight

You should be able to loosen the motor, check for an adjustment bolt or screw, Loosen it, install belt, Move motor with pry bar, large screwdriver or even a board. pry belt until the belt is tight, but not over tight about 1/2" defection. Make sure all the other bolt as are snug. Good Luck
