Fuel in cylinder of engine?

Had white smoke from Briggs and Stratton engine. Thought it might be the spark plug but when I removed the plug (at base of engine) next day fuel spilled out. Fuel seals to carb look okay but carb body was wet. Any ideas? Is there just a need to replace the seals or is this more serious?

Thanks for reply Sean,
I have ordered a new seal for the carb/float bowl on spec already (so hopefully that will solve it) but takes a week or more to arrive! Float operating okay and float needle valve seems to be clean and operating without sticking.
Won't know for sure until seal fitted.
