how do you install the cup washer on the lx255?

when installing a blade on a John Deere lX255 do you hammer the cup washer on to the spindle?

the washer should sit over the spindle and the blade bolt will pull it all tight. no hammering at all needed unless youve got an other problem ie, mshroomed blade shaft
