chain not oiling?

stihk 017 wont oil . first drained and flushed the oil tank 3 times. then took air hose to the oil pump port threw the cross over hose to the tank , all clear. then bought a new pump. still nothing !! should i shoot it???

First remove chain and bar. Then start up the saw and you should see chain oil oozing from the outlet. If this is the case, (it usually is) the oil holes in the bar - that feed into the groove the chain sits in, are probably blocked by fine sawdust. You will see a small hole on either side of the bar near to where the bar is secured to the saw body that takes the oil onto the chain. Clean these out with a pin or similar until clean. Run a knife blade or similar around the groove of the bar too.Very rare that the pumps at fault. Job done.

When you had the saw apart, did you study the oil pump drive mechanism? If its the same as the 018, the oil pump worm is driven by a circular coil spring, which locates into a notch of the clutch drum.
