MASTER SOCKET?

MY PROVIDER IS TALKTALK...IS BT STILL RESPONSIBLE FOR THE MASTER SOCKET?
JOHN, June 2009
I am afraid that Peccavi's answer is not really correct.

Your Service provider is responsible. If you need repairs you call them and they in turn will call Openreach. (Openreach are a BT owned company who maintain the infrastructure.) Openreach will not deal with end-users, only service providers.

However the Master Socket and the incoming are still owned by BT and must not be tampered with.

I think yes - BT own the infrastructure - Talktalk will rent capacity from BT - if a linecard fails at the exchange BT will be responsible for their own kit - not Talktalk. Must be the same at your house - if you switch to another ISP ownership of the line and master socket does not transfer.

Must be the same with gas and electric meters too I suppose.
