Maytag Performa fills continuously?

I just noticed that my Maytag Performa washing machine is filling during the wash cycle and at the same time it is draining. It gets about halfway full, and then it keeps filling. I can hear the water draining out when I shut the machine off. I checked the drain hose and it is fine, but I am not sure what else I need to do. The model # is PAVT234AWW

Hello,

I think I understand what you mean now. When your washer fills it drains out at the same time? If this is the case, you have to make sure your drain hose is at least 32 inches high so the water doesn't siphon out the hose and stays in the tub. Also, don't seal the end of the drain hose to the plumbing with anything such as duct tape, etc. or you will have the same problem. Hope this helps.

The machine does not fill while it is turned off, but you can hear it draining when I push in on the handle or open the lid of the washer for it to stop. The tub never completely fills up when it is on and in the beginning of the wash cycle.

Hello,

If your washer keeps filling even if the machine is off or unplugged, you have a bad fill valve. The valve won't seat properly causing it to stay open a bit and leak. Follow the water supply hoses to the valve.
