windows media xp?

i've got windows media on my pc but their is no sound coming out of my speakers.I'v tried everything it say to try on the trouble shoot page on windows but still nothing?

Open Start Menu-go to Control Panel-Click on Hardware-click Device Manager-then Open Sound Devices in the Drop Down Menu on the Left of the Page and check that it is enabled and that the Driver is present and working properly (it should tell you this in the window) if it says its not , try downloading another Driver for it . It will tell you what it is. (copy and paste it into internet Browser and see what it comes up with. if its not enabled, Enable it .
could go on and on and on . More info would help.. what speakers (onboard or satelite) what sound card (Onboard or PCI Add on ) .
