how to remove the drive wheels from MTD Yard Man ride on mower ?

I have a second hand MTD Yard Man ride on mower. I would like to remove the rear wheels to put on new tires. They seem to be stuck . Without trashing them does anybody have any ideas how to free them up?

Hi Roy
Yes I tried all of those other methods and got the same result. I was hopeing someone had one which I didn't remember. HO HO . Sorry you distorted the wheel Thats right about changing tires in place but it is not easy! Keep on trucking. Thanks a million.

Hello again Gary.
Tried a gear puller. only suceeded distorting the wheel rim. You can succesfully replace the tyre with the wheel on the axle. I hope this is of use to you. Maybe buy a house boat and trash the mower? Good luck!

Hello Gary. I have got exactly the same problem. i have tried penetrating oil. Beating it with a baulk of timber using a lump hammer from the opposite side. Applied heat to the wheel axle and beat it again. No luck. Next step is to try using a gear puller. I will probably have to make one to fit. Will let you know how i get on. Failing that i will probably grind it off and stick a new very copper greased wheel on.
