Kenmore Ultra wash 2 Dishwasher doesn't work?

My 10 yr old Kenmore Ultra Wash II dishwasher doesn't wash. After selecting the apprpriate wash cycle, adding soap, and closing the door, it filled with water and began washing. It quit mid cycle, and now only "clicks" periodically as the control selector makes its way around the cycle. The water doesn't drain, and as it enters the next cycle, (wash, rinse, drain, etc) it will click once and nothing happens. There is nothing obstructing any moving parts, and dishes are loaded correctly.

Any ideas? I'd like to work on it myself. Thanks

YOU ROCK Dude! THANKS for that link/web address & the time (& $$$) saved. My "fix" for same issue was a bad latch switch (1 of 2, 1 switch actuator stuck up in sw body, switch sprung) up in the top of the door at latch handle assy on my 665.1761591 Kenmore UltraWash II. The fix is now a kit that contains both switches & a new harness plug end w/4 seperate plugs instead of the 4-conductor module - $40. I didn't install the new harness end but kept it for possibly needing it later, I DID however install BOTH switches. Noteable point, if one's bad, the other can't be far behind. My harness end module in good shape though. Glad I didn't have to go deeper.

jpd,

THANKS for your response. The website you listed was a big help, and I have bookmarked it for future use, if (when) the need arises. My dishwasher is now working again. My wife is one to send for a repairman at the drop of a hat when ANYTHING goes wrong. It has been hard to "teach" her to understand there is a logical sequence for many things that need repair, and to pay for ONLY the things that I absoltely can not fix.

Anyway, my kids are happy to get out of washing dishes by hand, and I relish in the fact that I have a few more $ in MY pocket. Thanks for your help.

apparently 'kenmore' can be several diff manufacturers who make cr*p for sears who then rebrands it and adds a markup. To make a profit the original manufacturer cheapens it significantly. Anyway, all this from links from this site that may help:

It is likely a bad door switch or fuse - or, as for me a bad control panel $100....
