Fisher & Paykel ED56 Dryer Spins only one way?

I recently replaced the belt and capacitor on the ED56 model. However it will now only spin anti-clockwise and when it is due to change directions, it will just stop and a slight burning smell results. Any suggestions as to the problem would be appreciated.

Our ED56 does the same thing but we have not replaced the capacitor etc. There is a strong click (maybe a relay?) when turn it on but drum does not rotate.

Motor shaft spins freely when not attached to belt as does the drum. Is it possible that there is not enough power getting to the motor?

Thanks for your comments. The belt is positioned on the inside of each of the pulleys and it will change directions if the drum is empty. However if there is clothing in the drum it will just stop when it comes to change directions. I would be interested in any additional thoughts on what may be causing this

Maybe you put the belt tension pulleys on wrong & one of them may be jamming the drum when it reverses. One is longer than the other. Take the back off again and turn the drum both ways by hand & see if anything is jamming up.
