hi am am wanting to buy a sport ka, however the one i am interested in has rust around the petrol cap area which i am assured is normal, however i dont mind getting it repainted. but i was told the rust would just come back, is this true

I also own a Ford Ka with rust problems - in particular around the fuel filler cap and rear wiper.

Don't despair though - I found some "Rust Screening Rings" on Ebay specifically designed for these problem areas - bought both and they have really transformed my Ka and are really easy to fit.

Trust me the rust will come back through ! As with other fords ie puma & fiesta back wheel arches , the corrosion comes from behind where there is metal to metal contact & no waxoil protection . start grinding away the rust & you will find it is perforated . It could be repaired & painted but would defo come back to haunt you . Dont let it stop you buying tho if thats the only thing wrong !

no the rust should not come back through if the paint is removed and then a rust converter is applied "jenolite" is a very good product available from most good car shops ie halfords ,the rusted area will turn a greyish colour when effectively converted prime the area then paint/touch up area hope this helps

Hi Joanne, its true that it will probably come back, by some Rusteater from your local car spares shop, clean off any loose paint and rust and then paint on the rusteater, it will kill any rust left and give you a sound base for repainting, should be ok after that, good luck
