smokes on startup?

i have a 53 plate vauxhall vectra 2.0dti elite, the problem i have is on 1st startup or when the engine is cold, it always smokes, it's not a problem when it's warmed up, i've had the glow plugs checked and all are working fine, but it just seems to smoke and run lumpy when 1st started, has anyone got any ideas as to problem i have.....

well if it's stem seals i guess it will have to go in garage, not an easy diy job, thanks for the replies.

valve stem oil seals could cause your problem.-when stood for a while worn seals will allow oil to leak past valve stem and into combustion chamber -not so noticable when engine running.

it is white/blue smoke but only on startup, i have already put a cleaner in the fuel, so what would cause it to only smoke when cold started

if on start you see blue smoke you are burning oil if you see black this is fuel as long as its a quick puff its ok. if you are worried put some injector cleaner in the tank as you may have a injector that is not seating
