I have a 1989 harley davidson fxr, I just bought a new starter, solenoid, battery & starter drive. It only turns over about 1/2 a turn and it makes a grinding noise. The motor won't turn over and over like it should normally. I've ran out of ideas on how to fix this. I know the bike does run once it spins over like it should.

can you bump start it. I know this is a big ask with a harley! When you say you know it starts have you had it started?
To me with the infomation you gave me I would suggest something a bit more serious maybe some sort of seizure. Where is the grinding noise coming from?
Have you checked your oils recently.
