Hope you have solved this by now, but I changed mine by:-
Remove starter motor from engine
Place unit horizontally on firm surface
Look "within" the sprung black cage that can move up and down for the end of a roll pin
Rotate shaft until roll pin is vertical and knock it out using a hammer and drift pin or similar
I was surprised how much force it actually took to knock mine out and the proximity of plastic parts didnt help!
Now I have mine apart, it looks like the roll pin will come out either side, but it is a very tight fit within the starter motor shaft.
