westwood t1200 starter motor gear?

How do i fit a new small plastic starter motor gear that engages the fly wheel on a briggs and stratton 12hp engine
jason thackray, June 2009
Hope you have solved this by now, but I changed mine by:-

Remove starter motor from engine
Place unit horizontally on firm surface
Look "within" the sprung black cage that can move up and down for the end of a roll pin
Rotate shaft until roll pin is vertical and knock it out using a hammer and drift pin or similar
I was surprised how much force it actually took to knock mine out and the proximity of plastic parts didnt help!

Now I have mine apart, it looks like the roll pin will come out either side, but it is a very tight fit within the starter motor shaft.

Best of luck
