Thank you so much for your reply however the car is a diesel. I would be grateful for any other ideas that may help me.

You might not have a spark. If u have a spare spark plug disconect anyone of the sparkplug leads incert spare, earth it off the body, a nut with no paint on it helps. have a friend turn over the engine and check for spark. Hope this helps!
