scenic cutting out?

I have A 52 PLATE SCENIC 1.6 PETROL AUTO.
Starts first time but on two occasions now it has lost power,cut out and taken 20 mins to restart.
Mechanic says it is a sensor on crankshaft dirty?
Help please,any suggestions welcome.im losing confidence fast!!!
