Theres a knocking noise that sounds like its coming from the steering wheel when turning right. Ive been to a garage and theyve ruled out cv joint, bearings, track rod.
This is now bugging me and would like some ideas as to what else it could be.

Hi, I have a 2008 note,1.4 I had a terrible knocking noise from passenger front side.. I had checked everything myself but could. Not see anything so I started a self diagnosis,, conclusion inside front passenger strut there is a part that comes adrift.. Changed strut. Problem found now running great... Good luck

i had this noise and the nissan dealer told me straight away that the noise was caused by the electronic steering column. had it replaced £500. was perfect for 18 months then same noise restarted.. this box is directly behind steering wheel. this car has electronic power steering not hydraulic

i found it. my friend checked for about 20mins in vauxhall garage where he`s working that noise is from the steering wheel gearbox just above pedals.. is about 20cm connect kind of pipe. nissan will not tell you whats that because it is badly ade thing by nissan.. nissan micra just before note came out had the same thing.. dont spend money for end rod etc.. i tell you thats the right thing.. but problem is .. in UK nissan service want to sell whole steering gearbox !! they said they will not sell this 20cm "pipe" separate.. which could cost about 50-100pound.. steering gearbox costs 1487pound..

Did you ever get is resolved ?. I have a 57 1.6 Note with same 'knocking' when turning right. Comes & goes and seems less likely to occur in cold (-0) weather ??. Had Nissan garage check twice but found nil, but clearly somehting amiss.

I have the same issue with my wifes 2006 1.4 note - it happens when the steering is almost at full lock in either direction. Nissan are looking into it but the indication is that they all do it!

My sympathies! I have a very annoying noise when I first start the car moving in the morning. It goes away eventually - I think when it gets warmed up. I took it to a local Nissan dealer who could not find anything wrong (surprise, surprise!) but did suggest it could be the heat shield (for the exhaust system). This has to be 'loose' so that it can expand when hot, but I think it is fouling somewhere and maybe moving a bit when hot and so stops the noise.
Not sure if this will help but see if 'wiggling' the heat shield (sits above the exhaust pipe) a bit has any effect.

my friend do the best you can have the AA check that car .i Smashed a toyota because of trying to fix a steering prob. myself the wheel just locked as i took a bend so beta safe than way tooo sorry
