Renault Clio 1994 - Steering column universal joint?

The Universal joint on the Steering column is worn. Renault only sell new joint with complete steering column - about £200. Has anyone managed to source new UJ or repair kit for one of these joints? My garage will repair joint if I can find parts - their parts suppliers can only supply new columns.

where can i get a cheap one?

It is normally the joint above the UJ that wears. If you look on ebay you will see two types of 'Recon' columns. They are about £80.

One is where they put a new 'joint' in place of the rubber one and the other is where they just weld that part.

I do not have a view on whether the welded option is OK although it seems a common fix . If you are happy to have the joint welded (and it is NOT the UJ) then obviously you could remove the column, have it welded and then replace.

Thanks John - have searched all my local breakers and several on internet - no-one has one to match my car at moment.

I've come across this one too Keith - and I ended up getting a complete column from a beakers yard for the punter.
