TEBA COOKER BURNS THE UNDERSIDE OF CAKES AND BUNS. ?

FINE WITH SAVOURY THINGS THAT DO NOT NEED SUCH PRECISION. BUT HAVE PROBS WITH SPONGE EVEN THOUGH I ADHERE TO RECIPE INFO. I KNOW THAT THE CONSISTENCY IS CORRECT AND A BALANCED RECIPE. RENTED HOUSE SO NO MANUAL + TEBA INTO LIQUIDATION 5 YEARS AGO SO NO HELP FOUND AS YET AND LANDLADY DOESN'T WANT TO KNOW. COST OF INGREDIENTS WASTED PLUS COOKER DOOR MUST ALSO HAVE 'SEEPAGE' AS GRILL FRONTAGE ABOVE GOES BROWN.

I also had the problem of cake recipes which I had used very reliably for years in other ovens ( including those with a fan) ending up ruined. A friend suggested I put my sponge cakes into the oven BEFORE SWITCHING ON THE HEAT! I too found this beyond belief BUT it works! It does however take longer to cook. The main problem is that I cannot cook a succession of cakes as the cooker needs to cool between batches. As others have found, pastry and other types of cooking seem to be fine in a Teba oven. I am now going to eat a piece of freshly baked banana cake which has risen perfectly by starting the cooking from cold!

I rent a house with a Teba too. It's so old that the hob location graphics have worn off the top.

I too found that it burnt the bottom of buns but with the oven being fan assisted I just reduced the temp and made sure I was using silicon sheets and trays as they don't hold the heat like a metal one and therefore the bases of cakes and buns do not burn.

Hope that helps.

Single oven Teba cookers are supposed to have a metal plate about 7cms deep which fits below the controls to protects them from grill heat, and it stops the door closing when the grill is on.
