2005 MERCRUISER ALPHA 1 IT MAKES A LOUD CLUNK WHEN IN GEAR ?
Our 2005 Mercruiser Alpha 1 makes a loud clunk when it is shifted into gear. We are also experiencing play in prop to the shaft. When we are driving the boat slowly we experience a strong vibration. There is only 15 hours on this boat - help!
a loud clunk going into gear is normal, because of the design of the dogs on the clutch.
define "play in prop"
look for prop damage, could possibly be a bad gimbal bearing.
