SPJGT26 Spear & Jackson Strimmer how do you replace the pull cord spring?

I have an SPJGT26 petrol strimmer and the cord doesn't rewind after pulling it. I have removed the cover with the pull mechanism and it has what appears to be a phillips screw holding it together but I tried unscrewing it to no avail.... Any clues?
