How can I fix my hoover windtunnel?

I noticed I may have pushed the handle down a little too hard, and now there is no good suction in the hose accessories in the vacuum. Also, the pedal that you step on to let the handle down doesn't lock the handle in place anymore. I have a model U5753-900 Hoover Windtunnel. Are there any good instructions on how to fix this myself, and where to buy replacement parts?

The valve that automatically switches to hose suction is either blocked or has broken (more likely). The valve is available, as is the pedal for the base. Valve part #43516010, pedal part #38458043.
