Loud scraping noise coming from automatic gearbox at slow speed on 1993 mo?

What does the scraping noise signify?. The car has only done 27000 miles from new. 1300 engine regularly serviced. Otherwise the gearbox appears to drive normally. Everyone is baffled by the noise.
