Megane speedo stopped working?

I have a Renault Megane Fidji 1.6 on a 51 plate. Last week the speedo stopped working. It didnt work for about 3 days, then kicked in again. Now though, it has stopped again. Occasionally, it does show a flicker of life, but then dies again. Anyone have the fix??

I should have added that the speedo stopped working just after i changed the passenger side front wheel due to a flat tyre. Could that be the source of the problem??
